TOILE
\TWAL\
AN EARLY VERSION OF A FINISHED GARMENT MADE UP IN CHEAP MATERIAL SO THAT THE DESIGN CAN BE TESTED AND PERFECTED.
DECIDED TO GO WITH "TWAL" OVER "TOILE" BECAUSE IM NOT SURE IF PEOPLE WOULD KNOW HOW TO SAY THE LATTER.
Hey there, I'm Collin, the founder of Twal. I want to share with you why I started this platform and what it means to me.
The Problem I Saw
Let's be real: discovering talent and opportunities in the fashion industry sucks. I've been there, and I've seen it from multiple angles. Here's what I've noticed:
- The fashion industry is stuck in the past when it comes to hiring and finding talent. It's like they're using a rotary phone in a smartphone world.
- There's this weird disconnect. Designers are bursting with creativity but don't know where to showcase their work. And on the flip side, modern brands are struggling to find fresh talent.
- The whole process feels unnecessarily complicated. It's like the industry has set up these arbitrary hoops for people to jump through, and somewhere along the way, we lost sight of what really matters – raw talent and passion.
While I was in fashion design school, something didn't sit right with me. I saw all these incredibly talented people around me, but the path to success in the industry felt... outdated. It was like we were being trained for a world that didn't exist anymore.
At the same time, I was watching what was happening in tech. People were working remotely, collaborating across continents, and building amazing things together. The barriers were coming down, and creativity was flourishing.
I thought to myself, "Why can't fashion be like this?"
The Vision for Twal
That's when the idea for Twal hit me. I wanted to create a space where:
- Designers can show off their work without wondering who's going to see it.
- Brands can easily find the talent they need, whether it's designers, e- comm experts, tech designers, or photographers.
- There's a real sense of community – a place where creatives can connect, collaborate, and inspire each other.
- The old rules don't apply. Where your talent speaks louder than your connections or what school you went to.
The first version of Twal is pretty simple. At the moment, you can only:
- Browse talent
- Find/ Post jobs
That's by design. I need to know if you (the user) find value in this. If you've gotten this far, you clearly are intrigued.
So, I have a simple ask of you:
If you have a suggestion, a thought, feedback... tell me. The more people that use, the more potential I have of turning this into a proper business.
Thanks for listening!
